Kxip: On paper, yes. Ashwin, Axar, and Mujeeb make it a great attack. Axar and Ashwin can bat too.
There is one point to note. Mujeeb lacks experience and is very young. We must see how he reacts when the better batsmen in IPL attack him. Axar has got many chances in the IPL and in the National team but has not shown improvement.
When referring to better, I’m not sure if you mean better than RCB or the best in the IPL. I’d like to assume the latter approach and when I rate the KXIP spin trio in front of the rest, I’d say there would probably feature in the top 3.
I feel KKR has the best spin bowling trio with the mystery of Narine, the guile of Kuldeep Yadav and the experience of Piyush Chawla suiting the composition of their line-up.
In Mujeeb Ur Rahman, KXIP has potentially a weapon of mass destruction. Although he is very young and raw as of the moment, his bag of tricks could come in very handy in crunch situations since he is an unknown entity in world cricket right now. Add to that Ashwin and Axar Patel, you’ve got there a good mix of thinking spinners who will always look to bring their experience to the fore and be one step ahead of the batsmen at all times.
Moving on to RCB, Chahal’s rise over time has not only earned him a constant place in the Indian limited-overs setup but his thinking nature has earned him plenty of wickets over time. Washington Sundar, still a teenager is creating waves with his understanding of the game comes in handy.
So for me, the order of the best spin attack in the IPL would go like -
KKR, KXIP, and RCB.
