Shubman Gill Credits Yuvraj Singh for World Cup Success
Mumbai: India's U-19 World Cup saint Shubman Gill said senior expert and veteran batsman Yuvraj Singh guided him and gave him batting tips before.
"Yuvi paaji (Yuvraj Singh) gave a considerable measure of direction when he was at the NCA (National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru). He disclosed to me things about on and off the field, he gave me tips and batted alongside me," Gill, who pummeled an unbeaten 102 in the elimination round against Pakistan in the U-19 World Cup, said.
The 18-year-old right gave batsman struck three fifties and a hundred in the U-19 World Cup, which India won for the record fourth time in the wake of whipping Australia by eight wickets in the last on Saturday.
Talking about the thump against Pakistan, Gill said mentor Rahul Dravid exhorted him to play till the end. "There was the weight for the diversion against Pakistan. Our openers gave a decent begin and it was going great in the center. We lost a few wickets and Rahul (Dravid) sir exhorted me to bat till the end and the organization with Anukul (Roy) was great," said the Punjab batsman who was decreed the Player of the Tournament.
Gill was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders for the up and coming IPL, however, he said the emphasis was on the World Cup while the sale was being held in India a week ago.
"We were worn out as we had completed the match against Bangladesh daily previously (the sale). I woke up and became more acquainted with that I was picked by KKR. Around then I didn't consider the IPL and the attention were on the World Cup," said Gill, who plays for Punjab in the Ranji Trophy.
Gill said the arrangements were with the end goal that they were prepared to play even on "most exceedingly terrible wickets". "The planning was great and we were set up for the most exceedingly terrible wickets. After we crushed Australia in the main match, we thought our odds were there (to win the title)," the assaulting batsman said.
He said that the weight of playing in Ranji Trophy was not quite the same as that in the World Cup. "The weight in World Cup is not the same as that in Ranji (Trophy). In Ranji, you must be understanding and in the World Cup, you must be quick. The weight level in the World Cup (is more) as the (amusements) are broadcast," Gill closed down.
