Best things about AB de Villiers vs Virat Kholi or Hasim Amla
Both are classy.
Both are a treat to watch.
Both are match-winners.
Both are extremely good fielders.
And, Both share almost similar statistics.
AB de Villiers: 6939 runs at an average of 51.02 with 18 centuries ( ICC ODI Player 2010)
Virat Kohli : 6003 runs at an average of 51.30 with 2o centuries
(ICC ODI Player 2012)What separates them then?
This story I heard about Kohli when he had just walked in the field of international cricket and was yet to become the force he is today.
This is an excerpt of the story from the Indian Express.
When 18-year-old Delhi batsman Virat Kohli started his slow walk back after scoring a chanceless 90 this afternoon at Kotla, rival Karnataka players did not know whether to celebrate his innings or his dismissal.
Kohli was on 40 at close of play on Monday and his team staring at a follow-on with the last recognized pair in the middle.
This morning, along with Puneet Bisht who scored 156, Kohli saw his side through to safety.
But not many thought Kohli would be able to report at the dressing room this morning, let alone bat.
He lost his father, Prem Kohi, 54, at 3 this morning.
His teammates were surprised when he came back to play. The team desperately needed him but they told him he was more needed at home. But he insisted: "I want to bat."
Kohli looked blank but was focused and kept telling his partner Bisht to "stay at the wicket."
Kohli burst into the Delhi Ranji team with a series of big knocks at all levels in age-group tournaments. He scored 251 against Himachal Pradesh in an under-17 match in 2005, got a call for India under-19 and made 123 against England. He made his debut against Tamil Nadu this season.
When he was declared out at 90 before lunch, though the bat had brushed the pad as replays showed, his team was clearly out of trouble.
"We asked him what made him come here. And we also told him that if he decided to go back and be with his family, the entire team would support him. He decided to play. That is an act of great commitment to the team and his innings turned out to be crucial," said skipper Mitthun Manhas. "Hats off to his attitude and determination. It's unfortunate that he missed out on a hundred but what matters today is that how he played, not how much he made," added coach Chetan Chauhan. For this little story, everytime Kohli expresses his celebration, I can see the passion behind those eyes. Not that AB doesn't have this passion, but somehow this anecdote has always made me a more Kohli fan than AB.
Now come to Hasim to ABD :'
ODI: The fight for number one
On the off chance that you thought the similitude in insights of these two players were simply restricted to the more drawn out configuration, reconsider as these two are again neck-and-neck in One-Day cricket also. They possess the first and second position in the ICC ODI batsmen rankings with de Villiers on 844 and Amla on 811 focuses.
De Villiers made his introduction in 2005 against England while Amla needed to sit tight till 2008 for his first ODI coordinate against Bangladesh. Accordingly, the two have a match contrast of 69 recreations, which is the reason the general insights shouldn't be looked at, but instead in the years they have played in a similar group.
They have played 109 diversions together since 2008 and Amla develops 'weaker', in spite of the fact that he is definitely not, with De Villiers sitting on 5311 keeps running with a normal of 65.56, while Amla is on 5505 keeps running at a normal of 56.75.
Amla has scored 20 centuries, though de Villiers has 16 centuries when they have been in a similar group. Their batting positions are fluctuated, as Amla opens while de Villiers comes in the center request. They have been at the wrinkle in 36 innings and have made 2726 runs together at a normal of 80.17, the most noteworthy ODI association normal in cricket so far.
De Villiers has assumed greater liability in ODI cricket, as has kept and rocked the bowling alley; now he fields, bats and skippers. In spite of the fact that that is no reason, it illustrates the amount he contributes and how he figures out how to do this and still turn into the main batsman on the planet.
Player Matches Runs Average High Score 100s
AB de Villiers 1908045 53.27 162* 20
Hashim Amla 1215919 54.30 159 21
